Hi, I’m Ruth – the face behind RFitness Outdoors.
My journey into fitness hasn’t been a straight line. I was in and out of it throughout my early 20s, and then took a long break before returning four years ago. That return changed everything. I worked with a personal trainer, made the decision to focus on my physical and mental wellbeing, and committed to moving my body with purpose again.
Six months later, I participated in my first Strongman event – The Jolly – and absolutely loved it. I trained hard, achieved personal bests, and finished 10th. That experience lit a fire in me. I realised how much I thrive with a goal to train for, and how powerful it is to feel strong and capable in your own skin.
Soon after, my personal trainer introduced me to the world of kettlebell sport. I entered my first friendly competition and came second. That led to qualifying for the Scotland Kettlebell Team – where I earned a silver medal and went on to compete internationally in Denmark, representing Scotland against athletes from all over the world. I placed fifth in my category – a proud and humbling moment.
But through all of this, the biggest thing I discovered was a deep passion for helping others move, grow, and thrive. I became a qualified gym instructor and began teaching fitness classes – from rugby warm-ups to Strongman sessions, kettlebell technique, and high-energy HIIT workouts. I love it all, but especially the feeling of connection and confidence that movement brings.
I also believe in the power of the outdoors – the fresh air, the open space, the freedom to move without walls. That’s why I started RFitness Outdoors: to bring people together, to move in nature, and to enjoy fitness in a welcoming, energising way.
Right now, I run circuit classes to get your heart pumping, strength sessions that focus on technique and building resilience, and I’m planning to expand into kettlebell, mobility, and personal training offerings soon – so watch this space.
Whether you’re just starting your fitness journey or looking to push your limits, I’m here to support you every step of the way. No judgment, just movement, growth, and community.
Let’s train outside the box.
